LIFEGUARD APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED – DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: FEBRUARY 8, 2025
Seasonal positions with the Central Klickitat County Park & Rec. District. Hourly salary rate varies by experience starting at $17.30 to $18.36/hour. Benefits include all state and federal mandated benefits including sick leave. 2025 Swim Season will be approximately March 13 – September 14, 2026.
Applicants must be able to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard certification and the district can provide that training. The district will provide the training at the swimming pool. Practice swimming times will be available starting in late February. The course pre-requisites for the shallow water lifeguard class are:
Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:
- Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim fifty yards using the front crawl, breaststroke,
or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed) - Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs, floating, or
both. - Swim fifty yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.
Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 50 seconds:
- Starting in the water, swim twenty yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not
allowed). - Submerge to a depth of 4 – 7 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Return to the surface and walk or swim twenty yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the
object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface. - Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
The successful candidate(s) will be able to multi-task, work independently and have strong communication skills as well as complete and pass certifications as noted. Position(s) open until filled.*
